Outreach Services

Our Social Services Outreach Coordinator is available to be at Brazos Valley Food Bank partner agency sites and other community sites to help individuals and families fill out applications and recertifications, as well as answer questions for food stamps and other assistance programs such as Medicaid, TANF and the Women’s Health Program. The Outreach Coordinator will even turn in applications for clients at the Food Stamp Office. The goal of this Outreach effort is to ensure that everyone who is eligible for these programs knows about it and is able to access benefits.

SNAP (Food Stamp Program)

The Food Stamp Program (now known as SNAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income families buy nutritious food from retailers. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) pays for food stamp benefits throughout the country, and the Department of Health and Human Services manages and directs the program in Texas

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

The purpose of the TANF program is to provide financial and medical assistance to needy dependent children and the parents or relatives with whom they are living. Eligible TANF households receive monthly cash and Medicaid benefits and may be eligible for food stamps. TANF is what people usually think of as welfare.

Medicaid

Medicaid is the State and Federal cooperative venture that provides medical coverage to eligible needy individuals. Medicaid was introduced to improve the health of people who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their children.

Women’s Health Program

Provides no cost gynecological exams as well as important health screening to eligible women age 18-44.

Please contact the Outreach Coordinator if you would like more information or help applying for any of the above services.
