COMMUNITY SERVICE WORKERS

While no one likes to “have” to volunteer, the Brazos Valley Food Bank is happy to provide opportunities for members of the community to give back. Our mission is to help alleviate hunger in the Brazos Valley. Your time with us, no matter how long or how short, will greatly help us in this mission.

Orientation: All individuals appointed by the Court (Brazos County, City of Bryan, City of College Station, TAMU) to perform community service hours at the Brazos Valley Food Bank must complete a required orientation session at the Brazos Valley Food Bank before beginning work with us. Orientation may be done online at www.facebook.com/bvfbvolunteering, or here at the Brazos Valley Food Bank during volunteer hours.

Age Requirements: You must be 17 years old or older to perform Community Service Hours at the Brazos Valley Food Bank. If you are younger, you will have to have a parent or guardian accompany you while you complete all of your hours with us.

Offenses We Will Not Accept: The following offenses will not be accepted at the Food Bank, no matter how many hours have been assigned to you.

Robbery/Theft

Violent offenses (assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, etc)

Type of Work that will be Performed: The Brazos Valley Food Bank is very fluid, dynamic organization. Every day is different. You may be asked to help sort food donations, load/unload donations, help complete food orders, accompany staff on deliveries, assemble food bags or boxes, or clean. If you have physical limitations, please let us know at the Orientation.

Volunteer Hours: Community Service Hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm. It is not necessary to sign up, just show up.
It is required that you “work/volunteer” a minimum of 2 hours each visit.
You will be required to clock in and out each time you work with us. You will also need to sign in and sign out each time (this will be explained in greater detail upon arrival to the Food Bank).

Documentation of Hours Completed: : The Brazos Valley Food Bank has a full-time Food Assembly Coordinator whose job is to train all volunteer workers, assist in providing tasks to be done, as well as help keep track of hours completed by volunteers/community service workers. Our Volunteer Coordinator can supply for you written documentation of hours completed when you are finished, upon request. If the Court supplies you with its own form, we are prepared to complete this for you upon completion of your hours as well.

Attire: The Warehouse is not heated nor air conditioned. So, dress accordingly. Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals, absolutely no flip flops). Shorts in the summer are acceptable.

All Volunteer information, including downloadable applications and special events may also be found at www.facebook.com/bvfbvolunteering
